Description: This class will introduce the basic concepts of word processing to users. All of the tools needed to create basic memos and letters will be introduced. Topics will include an overview of the Word menus and screen layout, text enhancement (i.e., bold, italic, underline, borders), setting margins and tabs, spellchecking, and copying formatting.
- Overview of word-processing concepts: word-wrap, document default settings, Insert mode, etc.
- Explain screen areas: Menu, toolbars, status bar (difference between normal and page layout view).
- Text enhancement commands -center, underline, bold. Show how these features vary with new text and existing text.
- Formatting text
- Paragraph formatting
- Setting tabs

- Differentiating between indents and tabs
- Point out how toolbar always reflects what formatting is in effect.
- Explanation of the Paragraph symbol.
- Page formatting - Changing margins, adding page numbers, centering page
- Surrounding text with lines and boxes.
- Format Paintbrush. Copying the format of the text.
- Spellchecking the document
- Printing documents - to screen and printer
Computer consultant Ginnie Floraday will be conducting several free online courses for our members on Blue Beam, Excel, and word. Ginnie has been consulting and teaching in the computer field for over thirty years and has worked with SMACNA chapters during that time. Her primary focus is software training and computer consulting, working in the Microsoft Office applications and Blue Beam. Ginnie has also worked on troubleshooting documents and designing custom curriculum in during group and one-on-one remote training sessions for her clients.
